Music Educators' Resources

Inspired by her Little Rockers at The Buttery Music School (where Tash has developed a music curriculum for children aged 5 - 8 years), and from her training as a Kindermusik educator (babies - 5 year old children), Tash has created products and tools for teachers and caregivers keen to encourage their little ones to do some musical 'stealth learning'

Kodály Rhythms:
Glossy Playing Cards

These cards are designed to help children and adults who are new to music, become familiarised with rhythmic notation in a fun way, as well as to challenge more experienced rhythm-makers in new ways.

Each set includes instructions and 52 glossy vibrant picture cards, with 13 different rhythms, in simple and compound times. Each card displays a note value (accompanied by a cute animal), and the Kodály syllable and numerical value for that note. Cards can be played in a variety of ways, including Snap, Memory, Go Fish, Compose a Rhythm, and more.

Developed by Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály, rhythmic syllables like "ta" for quarter notes/crotchets, "ti" for eighth notes/quavers, and "ta-a" for half notes/minims help students read and perform rhythms more easily. Kodály's approach aims to develop musical literacy from an early age, fostering a deep connection to music through active participation. These cards extend this concept, using bright and engaging cards to 'gamify' and encourage learning.

Designed and printed in Australia. $AU30 per pack.

NB: These resources are not official resources of any Kodály Institution or Association. They have been developed independently by Tash James Music.
